West Nile Virus Found Near New Orleans – Warnings Issued

Health officials in New Orleans have issued a warning to residents of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, and The West Bank.  The City of New Orleans Mosquito and Termite Control Board have discovered the West Nile Virus disease in the area.

According to CBS News:

While the city will be spraying insecticides by truck and airplane and conducting residential inspections, officials are asking residents to protect themselves by eliminating mosquito breeding sites including containers and waste tires.

West Nile Virus & Who It Affects Most

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most infected individuals are asymptomatic, some people develop flu-like symptoms and a small number have serious neuroinvasive disease. Residents over 65 years old are at highest risk for complications, but everyone is at risk for infection.
