The world’s religions have different opinions and beliefs about a variety of subjects, but how do they feel about the existence of extraterrestrials?

David Weintraub, an astronomy professor from Vanderbilt University, has written a book called ‘Religions and Extraterrestrial Life’ that examines the way religious beliefs affect how people feel about the possibility of alien life forms.

His book contains research into how theologians from over 24 different religions view the idea of life on other planets, including several Christian denominations, along with Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism.

Statistics from public opinion polls show that 55 percent of Atheists, 44 percent of Muslims, 37 percent of Jews, 36 percent of Hindus, and 32 percent of Christians believe that life exists on other planets.

Roman Catholics have written more about the subject than other Christian groups.

Their debate is whether or not an intelligent alien race would need to be saved from original sin if they weren’t the offspring of Adam and Eve, native to planet Earth.

Both Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists have incorporated a belief in extraterrestrials into their theology, while Jewish leaders say that their relationship to God wouldn’t be affected by the existence of aliens.
