Number 10: Number 10: Pope Francis, according to TolkienBrasil, is a fan of the works of JRR Tolkien. During an Easter message to Argentine teachers while a Cardinal, he mentioned Frodo and Bilbo as illustrations of hopeful heroes who are called to walk a path between good and evil.
Number 9: Pope Francis, besides being employed as a nightclub bouncer and literature teacher, was also a janitor at one time.
Number 8: He has upset traditionalists. Pope Francis created an uproar when washing and kissing the feet of two women, one of whom was Muslim, during a traditional Holy Thursday ceremony at a youth prison. Traditionalists say that this ritual is a re-enactment of Jesus washing the feet of the 12 apostles before his death, and should be restricted to men only.
Number 7: Pope Francis is willing to be silly. In early November 2013, the Pope donned a red nose and posed with a newly married couple inside the Vatican. The couple volunteers for a charity that uses clown therapy with ill children.

In September of 2013 it was reported that he called to comfort a pregnant Italian woman whose married boyfriend tried to convince her to have an abortion. He reportedly told her he would “personally baptize the baby when it is born”.
Number 2: He has been outspoken about the church spending money frivolously. He urged officials to dress moderately and questioned the spending of $20,000 on cardinal’s clothes.
