Southern California was cleaning up after Sundays El Niño driven winds caused damage and power outages

Thousands of households were left without electricity as storms downed trees and power poles in Southern California.

Gusts of wind up to 115mph were recorded as heavy rain hit the west coast, causing massive outages and flooding on Sunday night.

ABC7 reports:

As many as 52,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers were without power Sunday night in areas such as Hollywood, Westlake, Mid-City and Mid-Wilshire.

By Monday morning, approximately 23,000 customers, including residents in Wilmington, East Hollywood and Larchmont, were still without power.

In a statement, the utility company said the strong winds and rain downed multiple power lines. Crews were working to restore power to LADWP’s affected customers.

About 70,000 Edison customers were also hit with outages. SoCal Edison said nearly 200 crews were working to restore electricity. By Monday morning, SoCal Edison said 40,000 customers were still without power. An estimated time for restoration was not provided.
