David Cameron has said the UK will not pay an additional £1.7billion (€2.1billion) demanded by the European Union after a recalculation by the European Commission about how the economies of member states have performed since 1995.

Paying the additional sum would add about a fifth of the UK’s current annual contribution to the EU, while under a leaked European Commission document Germany would receive a £614million rebate and France £788.7million.

The above chart from Statista shows how UK contributions to the EU have changed over the last decade.
