According to the student, his teacher performed oral sex on him twice in the classroom in October, according to an affidavit obtained by KVUE-TV.
Daily Mail report: She has now been charged with conducting an improper relationship with a student.
She is ‘not permitted to return to the campus’ according to the school’s principal Matt Groff, and she had ‘elected to take leave’ before the allegations surfaced.
On Tuesday, Chaverria handed herself over to Williamson County Jail and has since been released after posting bond and is yet to enter a plea.
She was awarded Secondary Teacher of the Year in May last year and also ran an ‘Adopt-A-Child’ scheme in the local community, where high school students ‘adopt’ an elementary school child who has been identified as ‘in need,’ purchase holiday gifts and host a party.
Upon receiving the reward, she said: ‘The most important role of a teacher is to help shape future generations to become successful members of our community.
‘More than any curriculum I teach my students, I hope that they will walk away from my classroom thinking of ways that they can make a difference in their community and impact the lives of others for the better.’
The school district said it would cooperate with authorities, saying ‘safety is the top priority’.
Groff said: ‘Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment requires partnership between students, parents, campus and district staff, as well as law enforcement.’
Chaverria passed a background check from the Texas Department of Public Safety before she was hired.
The Texas Education Agency has found that the number of sexual relationships between teachers and students is rising.
They recorded 442 in 2018-2019, compared to 429 and 302 in previous years.
