The Local.se reports:
According to Säpo’s definition, this means that “the probability that players have the intent and ability to carry out attacks is high”.
“One of the reasons for the increase is that the security service has received concrete information and concluded that we must act within the framework of our counter-terrorism work,” Säpo said in a press release issued at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.
Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet has reported that prosecutors have opened an investigation into plans to “carry out an act of terror” on Swedish soil, however this has not been confirmed by Säpo.
The security service has scheduled a press conference for 7.30pm.
Sweden’s decision to raise the threat level follows similar action in several other European countries including Italy, Spain and neighbouring Denmark, following the attacks in Paris on Friday which left 129 people dead.
