Russia’s ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinskiy, was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Khartoum on Wednesday, according to Sudanese police.
He has become the seventh Russian diplomat to have died since November last year.
In an article published in February titled, “Russian Diplomats Keep Dying Unexpectedly,” Axios reported that at the time six envoys had died in the span of three months and all but one died on foreign soil.
Some of the deaths were labeled as “heart attacks” or “brief illnesses.”
Russian state-run news said that Shirinskiy. who was in his sixties, manifested signs of an acute heart attack and that Sudanese police had ruled out any assassination attempt
