Quebec Ditches Its Plan To Tax The Unvaxxed To ‘Avoid Angry Backlash’

The Canadian province of Quebec has dropped its plan to impose a health tax for all adult residents who chose not to have the covid jabs.

The regional government said that the idea would only alienate people.

Quebec premier Francois Legault told reporters on Tuesday “I have to make sure that I protect the health of Quebecers, but I have also to protect the peace in our society,” he added that “In the last week or so there’s been an increase in the reaction of people.

RT reports: While the province’s health minister said Quebec saw an uptick in vaccinations after the tax plan was unveiled in mid-January, in announcing the about-face, the premier said, “I understand that this divides Quebecers and right now we need to build bridges.”

They are angry more than ever. I don’t like to see Quebecers divided like we’re seeing.”

The proposed “health contribution” would have fined unimmunized residents for between $50 and $100, with Legault initially saying the policy aimed to “tell people who choose not to get vaccinated that there will be a price to pay” and make up for “sacrifices” endured by the rest of the population.

To date, around 84% of those eligible in Quebec are considered fully vaccinated, just above the national average.

The province of Ontario, Canada’s most populous, previously opted against a similar tax, arguing the policy was unjustifiably “punitive.” Premier Doug Ford said his administration would “take a different approach,” though he implored residents to receive the shot.

Quebec’s decision to scrap the fine comes amid a major vaccine row at the Canadian border, where truck drivers have gathered to protest vaccination mandates in both Canada and the US in recent days. One stretch of borderland in Coutts, Alberta reportedly saw a blockade of around 100 trucks, creating a miles-long backup on Montana’s Interstate 15. The Alberta government has denounced the protest as a “significant inconvenience” that “must end immediately,” while police declared the gathering unlawful and vowed to take action to stop it earlier on Tuesday.

  1. Feeling the heat huh? Well, its about to get turned up even more. Maybe you should find out where your allocated bunker is and hide there until it is safe to come out again, around 2055.

  2. The cokbastard bureaucrats and political “leaders” are all corrupt and dedicated to their own narrow self interests. The have no moral or legal authority to do anything they have done during covid. Everyone who has participated in deceiving the public and causing all this death and pain should be held responsible, from the top leaders down to petty functionaries, they should see prison time at minimum, many should be tried for crimes against humanity.

  3. Because trucks transport all foodstuffs really Now here they’re lying as usual and saying 80%of groceries are transported by train into WA and because of summer flooding In SA a little bit of track is about half an inch underwater, they aren’t saying that of course, but that’s the truth, as of a few days ago, dried up now of course, but only old pictures, that could be from years ago, even decades, we wouldn’t know since it’s out in the desert somewhere unidentified, so they have power. So now WA s got empty shelves they say Well I lived on the train tracks out in the desert and they weren’t carrying groceries then. And there’s more trucks than ever and just begore, last year, when there was no toile paper it was, they said because the trucks had to be quarantined at the borders with all the groceries. There’s no massive truck depots at any train stations here that in this state that could explain 80%of groceries being unloaded from trains for despatch to supermarkets around the place. And no one’s ever heard that story before and when I’ve been saying for decades why aren’t they getting all the road trains of the roads and putting the stock on the bleeding trains they’ve always said no. It’s truckies because that way they get to sell thousands of trucks and make millions more in profits Billions with roadworks. And all the costs are passed to the consumers n

    • And BTW the puddle, which in mid summer aussie desert land would have evaporated totally in about 2 hours has, caused damage that will take 3 days to fix. Course that was 2 days ago and still no pics of teams of dwarves running about whistling while they work to come to rescue. Nil interest apparently.
