A Pokemon Go player has found a dead body floating in Salmon Brook near Rotary Park, Nashua.

This is not the first time that a body has been found in a river by a player of the popular new augmented reality smartphone game.

Digital Spy reports:

This time, the discovery was particularly grizzly. A player going on an afternoon hunt in Nashua, New Hampshire has stumbled upon a corpse floating in the water of a nearby park.

Police were quickly called and pulled the body to land, but the emergency services have not indicated whether they believe the death to be suspicious.

The incident comes days after another Pokémon Go player encountered a dead body in Wyoming.

Places of interest within Niantic’s augmented reality game such as Pokéstops and gyms are generally located in public spaces such as parks, churches, and squares. This gamification of communal space, along with the enormous popularity of the app, is having a wide array of unintended consequences.

Concerns have been raised about health and safety and the danger of environmental obstacles, as many players have found themselves wandering into trouble that includes, but isn’t limited to, oncoming traffic.

There have also been reported incidents of organised crime where the app is has been used to coordinate armed robberies.

The can of worms that is augmented reality has been opened, but the great debate surrounding its potential uses and abuses has just begun. The weird and wild Pokémon GO stories will keep on coming, and as they do, the conversation will undoubtedly evolve.
