A wonderful report has been compiled of the various UFO sightings across North Wales through the years.

From The Daily Post [1]:

There have been 31 UFO sightings in total North Wales in the last decade.

One person euphemistically said they had spotted “an unusual sighting” in Wrexham in October 2008 and left it at that.

Someone else said they saw a “large black object over Rhyl” in February 2004.

A police officer in Rhuddlan said they saw “a big explosion with an intense white light” in September 2000 [2].

Someone in Tywyn in April 2009 said they saw “a big bright orange light” that proceeded to “turn white and then disappeared very quickly” without making a sound.

According to documents released by the National Archive one sighting reported on April 13 2009 said there was a UFO over Moelfre which, in its description, said: “Looked like a Chinese Lantern”.

The strange experience reported by the wife of a retired Royal Marine who saw a light enter their bedroom one night in 1977 on Llangefni , Anglesey , is also in the files.

“It had a ‘skin’ pulsated with energy. Electric lights went out turquoise colour as seen in a gas flame. Inside full of pin-point lights like stars. After a short time – I cannot specify – the light went into exact replay of its entry and out of the window,” she said.

In August last year members of the Aetherius Society climbed more than 3,000 feet up Carnedd Llewelyn, Snowdonia , to access the spiritual energy said to have been charged in the mountain by a cosmic being from another planet [3].

Previously The UFO Investigations and Research Unit, based in Shrewsbury, have turned their attentions to Anglesey and in particular Puffin Island in their quest to gather information on extraterrestrial phenomena [4].

In January, 1974, a number of people claimed to have seen large, structured objects leaving the sea near the island, and similar sightings have been sporadically reported up to the present day.

The most famous UFO sighting in North Wales is the mystery of the Berwyn mountains UFO crash in 1974 when people reported hearing a huge bang, felt earth tremors and saw a brilliant light in the sky [5].

Police converged on the area and emergency services were put on standby. Although searches were undertaken, officially nothing was found – leading to claims of a cover-up.

In the four decades since there has been a huge debate as to what exactly happened that night, with TV documentaries made and books written on the subject.
