Obama Calls For Nationwide Gun Ban After Florida Shooting

Obama calls for immediate ban on guns following Florida school shooting

Former President Barack Obama has demanded an immediate ban on guns following the Florida school shooting on Wednesday that left 17 people dead.

We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless. Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we’re doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change,” Obama Tweeted shortly after the tragic event.

Dailycaller.com reports:

Obama did not specify what exact actions he is calling for, or whether they would have prevented Wednesday’s tragedy.

The shooter, Nikolas Cruz, passed a background check when he purchased the AR-15 he used to carry out the shooting.

This is the second time Obama has called for further gun legislation following a mass shooting during President Donald Trump’s administration.

Obama used the Texas church shooting in November to demand America “reduce the violence and weaponry in our midst.” Then, too, he did not present any concrete solutions.

  1. So my understanding of this story is then, that the mainstream media will take the side of “what a tragic, capricious occurrence” and push for gun control, while the alternative news sources will be encouraged to promote the “oh my goodness, your 2nd amendment right, those horrible mainstream people are trying to take your guns and then they will come for you and kill you!” On the one hand people are encouraged to believe that gun-carriers are hateful criminals just waiting to shoot them, and on the other hand people will be convinced that anti-gun people are blind sheep, with overlords that will readily kill them as soon as they lose their guns. The fallacy, here, being, in my opinion, that both groups are filled with well intention-ed people who are led astray, into the dangerous perspective that their “side” is right, or even exists, as disparate, and more righteous than the other (conflicting viewpoints lacking any creditable claim). And so both sides pour out their hate. Here is a thought. People in Syria have guns, and also in Iraq. Certainly there were many guns in Libya. If the government comes after you to kill you, will, even en mass, people be able to stop them with guns given this historical precedent? Remember people in these countries actually were somewhat banded together in their resistance. Will a divided, and armed nation, even be able to aspire to the types of resistance we have seen fail globally? Is a gun going to be able to protect from an areal attack? I’m not for the disarming of people, make no mistake about that – but, what is at stake here is even more critical. If you hate your neighbor, you’ve just lost the entire war, forget about the battle.

    • Alice, I agree with your sentiment about loving or hating your neighbor. However for every evil man with a gun there needs to be at least two good guys with a weapon.

      • I understand this idea in theory, but, it seems to have as a basic tenant a few things. One, a concept that there are “good” men, and “evil” men, intrinsically; I personally believe all people are born good, and perhaps respond poorly in situations, or are drugged or otherwise led to evil actions. But even using the working definition of “evil man” as a man who is fundamentally good, but chooses poorly, to hurt their neighbor, out of being drugged or otherwise misled – how common and resolvable is this situation through the use of guns. Obviously there is a simplistic situation where there’s an “active shooter” and another person shoots him; certainly the right puts out this scenario in which it is desirable that the shooter get killed by a bystander to prevent the loss of further non-involved people. Despite the fact that the New Testament highly encourages not killing one another, I can see the logic of the world in this. However, what I find less than optimal is a mindset whereby people arm themselves, but neglect at the same time the spirit of cooperation that would perhaps eliminate or nearly eliminate the active shooter situation to begin with. I feel the corrupted alt-right movement just encourages people to dwell in fear of others by propagandizing what might have been an orchestrated shooting, for a more immediate purpose of instilling hate and divisiveness, and additionally having everyone isolate and arm themselves. Being armed in and of itself isn’t something I’m opposed to, but establishing a well functioning society and looking at the underlying causes of these things is more imperative, and that’s where my issue is I guess. I personally feel that the people behind the government are one of the greatest risks to the common person, and I still maintain that a few people having weapons, without even fully cooperating with their neighbor, will not result in much; if anything it will give anti-gun people more ammunition to say “those people only care about themselves, they are dangerous” and lead to them siding with the government in their eradication. However, if the pro-gun people reached out and worked constructively with anti-gun people to address the real poisons out there – the pharmaceutical drugs given to teenagers and children to begin with, toxic food, water, spiritual poisons, and economic weakness and exploitation…matters which seem contentious but in which common ground could probably relatively easily be found by those who are not set on rebellion for the sake of self-righteousness – then, how much more likely that guns, whether owned or outlawed, would become irrelevant? For me I find this focus on guns, and self-armament simply a cover for “fear” and “division”. As long as we can see the humanity in those who disagree with us, I think we are not lost.

          • How can it be otherwise? Look at every baby; they are absolutely delighted to see a stranger, in fact it takes some time for them to even understand what fear is. Have you met a baby that doesn’t display this innate love and joy at seeing another human being? Were we not all children once? Have you never experienced the kindness of a stranger, a helping hand in a time when you least expected it? Looking inward do you not see a heart that is capable of great love – surely you feel this for your immediate family, therefore, why imagine others do not have the same capacity? I am not saying humans cannot degrade from this condition into acts of dishonor and needless suffering, but I do not see a reason to believe this is how we start, or how we should be. My conjecture is that people acting in an evil way are reacting to evil perpetrated against them, or, are being poisoned or indoctrinated against their God-given natures.

  2. Former President Barack Obama has demanded an immediate ban on guns following the Florida school shooting on Wednesday that left 17 people dead. SAYS THE DICKHEAD

Obama used the Texas church shooting in November to demand America “reduce the violence and weaponry in our midst.” Then, too, he did not present any concrete solutions
    ..

    • As usual, he slicky inferred that ” most Americans want change to existing gun safety laws – I don’t have it word for word you get it.. The subtle post shooting supposed to be sympathetic “we’re with ya” comments”, make no mistake, are being strategically “LIGHTLY” crafted & peppered in here and there to remain on the minds of Americans and in a devious way the hope IS for the TACTIC to cause us to go aww, he REALLY cares about US, about our children.. (& That MOST of us would prefer a gun ban..).
RIGHT, like he CARED about CHICAGO? PLEASE DON’T CARE SO MUCH BECAUSE WE HAPPEN TO LOVE OUR CHILDREN!!
Outside of PAID CRISIS ACTORS, I doubt Americans want to see our Second Amendment taken away or excepted in any form.. Once we go there, PREPARE to LOSE so much more than other people’s guns…
Even if you do NOT approve of guns, as an American Citizen, we have a duty to protect the rights of our fellow Citizens to bear arms!! Personally, I don’t own a gun. I definitely understand how critical defense of our second amendment IS to OUR Continued Freedom! Smh, open your eyes & minds – UNDERSTAND and ACCEPT THE FACT THAT IF NOT FOR THE SECOND AMENDMENT, WE WOULD LIKELY BE ABSORBED BY NOW..

BESIDES, SHOWS A SERIOUS LACK OF CLASS AND RESPECT TO BE HECKLING LIKE THIS..

ONCE UPON A TIME, ALL AMERICANS WERE EXPECTED TO GATHER TOGETHER IN SOLIDARITY BEHIND OUR NEWEST PRESIDENT AND BEHAVE AS PATRIOTIC AMERICAN!

NEVER BEFORE WERE THESE BEHAVIORS AND LEFT FIELD COMMENTARIES TOLERATED! INSTEAD, IMMEDIATELY PEOPLE CALLED OUT AND APOLOGIZED BUT USUALLY NO OTHER AMERICANS WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH UNPATRIOTIC PEOPLE DISRESPECTFUL OF OUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF..

  3. BTW, baraq o bamah translation means: ” lighting from heaven”…

I can’t believe I JUST found this out..
