Spectacular displays of the Aurora Borealis, better known as the Northern Lights, were witnessed across parts of the UK overnight.

The dazzling display appeared in many parts of Northern England, Ireland and Scotland on Sunday night and was even was visible as far south as Oxfordshire

Aurora Borealis occurs when electrically-charged particles from the Sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere and is usually seen in regions close to the North Pole.

Many people took to social media to share their photographs of the dramatic show.
