Joan Rivers Condition Update: Being Brought Out Of Coma

Joan Rivers is being brought out of her coma, according to reports released today and multiple sources. According to an article in The International Business Times, the actress is being brought out of her induced coma, but there are fears that “The actress may have lost her motor skills because of an allegedly mismanaged operation earlier.” Rivers’ daughter, Melissa Rivers, said Sunday, “Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed.”

Rivers is best known for her legendary comedic act, which burst her into stardom on The Johnny Carson Show. According to her Wikipedia article, “The show (Johny Carson) established her particular comic style, poking fun at celebrities, but also at herself, often joking about her extensive plastic surgery. When she launched a rival program, The Late Show, he never spoke to her again. She went on to host a successful daytime slot, The Joan Rivers Show, which won her a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Joan Rivers Falls Ill

The comedienne was placed into a medical coma on Friday after suffering cardiac arrest during a routine throat procedure. Rivers was immediately rushed to the hospital and it was announced she was in critical condition. Fans from around the world have had an outpouring of support for the legend.

“The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday,” a source close to the family told the New York Daily News, adding: “There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.” Even with all the support, however, Joan Rivers has had her share of negative comments while she has been in the coma due to a comment regarding the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis. Her daughter, however, is remaining positive, posting on the official Joan Rivers website: “My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”
