Wood Green was left rattled today as news of a terrible drive-by shooting killed one man and has left a woman in the hospital.
According to The Evening Standard :
Police were called to Lordship Lane, not far from Wood Green station, shortly before 6pm this evening. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, with woman being rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Witnesses described hearing a hail of gunfire after a group pulled up in a car and sprayed the pavement with bullets.
Chicken shop owner Ibrahim Yurdakul, 33, said his brother Mihir Yurdakul was sat outside when the attackers fired on the street and described him as lucky to be alive.
“They started shooting at the shop, about five or six bullets and then drove off,” he told the Standard.
“They were there for about 30 or 40 seconds. It was a big gun, like a machine gun.
“I was in the shop at the time and we heard the gunfire. But my brother was outside.
“He was on the pavement next to the guy when he got shot.
“If he hadn’t jumped to the floor maybe something would have happened to him too – he was very lucky.”
At the scene forensics officers could be seen combing the area for evidence. The road was closed in both directions near the Acacia Road junction.
No arrests have been made and the Met has appealed for help with their enquiries.
