Video shows a fire engulfing an area of historic heathland in Cornwall.
A large fire broke out at around 9pm on Tuesday May 26 on Carn Brea in Cornwall. Half a dozen firefighting crews were scrambled to the site near Redruth after emergency services received around 200 calls.
The Carn Brea slope is an area of historic heathland which is the site of an ancient neolithic fort. Dozens of fire-fighters battled overnight to contain the huge gorse blaze.
Flames lit up the sky and were seen from miles around. Police and emergency services were still dousing the inferno this morning at the popular tourist attraction.

The Express reports:
Police patrol cars were stationed on roads leading up to the blaze to stop people from trying to approach and take photographs.
However, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said that there was “no suggestion of arson” at this stage.
Fire crews were scrambled to reports of a “large gorse fire” at just before 9pm last night after being inundated with hundreds of calls by worried neighbours.
The huge blaze raged just a few hundred yards from people’s homes in the small town of Camborne, Cornwall.
At one point overnight it was so fierce that people could see it lighting up the sky from 15 miles away in Truro.
A spokesman for the Devon and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “The fire is being fanned by strong winds and currently the area involved covers three hectares.
“Currently good progress is being made on one front, a second front is being allowed to burn to a natural break.
“Western Power has been informed of the incident due to the possibility of high flames affecting overhead cables.
“Police have also been requested to attend this area due to members of the public driving up to look at the fire and causing access problems.”
Locals reported seeing a “ring of fire” engulfing the historic site, which also houses a medieval castle and a smugglers’ cave once used by pirates.
Helen Tamblyn-Savill tweeted: “Sad to see Carn Brea trending due to fire. Well done to the fire crews.”
Hayley Wood added: “Hope #CarnBrea isn’t too damaged following last nights gorse fire. A real focal point of the local area #Cornwall”
