They whipped out their phones and captured photos and video of the extraordinary sight.

‘Check that out, woah, it’s going to hit the tail of the plane,’ shouts one man, as the strange blue shape shifts slowly through the night sky.

After being shared on LiveLeak, the footage led to people comparing it to a similar event in Norway in 2009, and discussing what these strange blue lights in the sky could be.

Some commentators online have put forward the theory that the floating blue lights are the result of a UFO taking off – most likely man made black ops tech.

Another user believes the eerie lights could be a result from CERN’s Large Hadron Collidor, as they have once again begun smashing protons. The blue lights could be an inter-dimensional glitch.

One user said it could be Project Blue beam hologram technology being tested in advance of a staged alien invasion.

‘That’s what happens when you reach 88 mph in a Delorean,’ another user joked.

However some theories are more mundane. One user says it is a ‘Florida rocket launch’, and another agrees, saying the ‘plume is from a hydrogen powered rocket engine, water vapor condenses in the high altitude forming a cloud of ice crystals reflecting light from the sun which, from this viewpoint, is below the horizon.’
