A report into child sex abuse in Oxfordshire heavily criticises authorities after 300 young people were groomed and sexually exploited over 15 years.

More than 300 children and young people were groomed and sexually exploited by gangs in Oxfordshire in the last 15 years, on the watch of a councillor related to David Cameron’s election team in Witney.

The “brutal” report will slam police and social services for “turning a blind eye” and failing to protect young girls in the county from violent abuse, torture and enslavement – despite compelling evidence they were in danger.

Now David Cameron could be dragged into the scandal, after the Political Scrapbook blog revealed the councillor at the centre of the report is related to a key member of the Tory leader’s campaign team.

After the police investigation revealed the scale and brutality of the abuse, Cllr Chapman was promoted to a newly created job on the council’s cabinet, taking charge of “policy coordination”
