College Cheerleader Set To Plead Guilty On ISIS/Terror Charge

A 20-year-old Mississippi State University sophomore is expected to plead guilty on a terrorism charge.

Jaelyn Young’s plea comes after she and her fiancé, Muhammad Dakhlalla, were arrested last year. They had plans to join ISIS.

According to BET:

The couple were originally arrested after undercover federal officials got word of their planned trip to Syria for their honeymoon. Both were jailed in Oxford. Dakhlalla has already pleaded guilty to the charges and is awaiting his sentence.

According to prosecutors, Young was the “the leader of the plot [and] by the time Young began dating Dakhlalla in November 2014, she was already interested in converting to Islam. She announced her conversion in March and began wearing a burqa, a garment worn by some Muslim women to cover their face and body.”

Young continuously distanced herself from her family and other non-Muslims. Eventually, she expressed an extreme sense of hatred for the U.S. government and would speak to Dakhlalla about joining ISIS.

Once the two decided to join ISIS, they contacted FBI employees who were posing undercover as allies to the group. Young and Dakhlalla reached out in order to get help and assistance in traveling to Syria.

Young faces up to 20 years in prison, $250,000 in fines and lifetime probation.
