Bruce Willis has warned President Trump he will be a “one term president” if he makes the “monumental mistake” of abandoning his base and his respect for the Constitution by coming for our guns.
“I really hope he realizes he’s going to lose half his base by doing something this stupid,” Bruce Willis said, firing a warning shot across the bows. “I voted for him because he was strong on the Constitution, strong on the Bill of Rights,” Willis said to audience members after his appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, where he was promoting his new film Death Wish.
“What he said the other day totally betrays the ideals of the people who got him elected. I’m hoping someone pulled him into a back room and said ‘Hey man, you are betraying the ideals of our founding fathers, this is not going to end well.‘”
Asked by an audience member if he really thought gun control would “end badly“, Willis doubled down, stating that he has “no doubt it will end badly. For him [Trump] and for the rest of us.”
“These are our rights, they are not privileges that can be taken away from us like we are kids because of some psycho nutcase in Florida or wherever,” said Willis, “If he pushes through with these reforms I will be voting for another candidate in 2020 and I know for a fact that millions of other people will too.”
In an open meeting with congressional Democrats and Republicans Wednesday, Trump appeared to embrace the idea of raising the age limit on purchasing weapons and suggested that law enforcement should be allowed to confiscate people’s guns before going through due process in a court.
Trump has been tentatively applauded by those on the left for his surprise stance on gun control. But not Bruce Willis. At a time when Hollywood stars are lining up to support one Democrat agenda item after another, Bruce Willis is one of the very few stars to go against the grain and give voice to alternative positions.
It is a risky proposition to go up against the Hollywood left, but Willis is a major power player in the film industry, having grossed more than two and a half billion dollars at the box office.
“I think that you can’t start to pick apart anything out of the Bill of Rights without thinking that it’s all going to become undone,” he said.
Bruce Willis also spoke of a potential erosion of individual rights recently.
“If you take one out or change one law, then why wouldn’t they take all your rights away from you?” Willis asked.
Death Wish, the new Bruce Willis film directed by Eli Roth, is in cinemas. Willis has thrilled fans of the Die Hard franchise, confirming that Die Hard 6 is now in pre-production.
