Amazingly the offender, who was sentenced to more than three years in prison in 2011, is not breaking any laws.
Investigative reporter Mark Williams Thomas is backing a campaign to bring in legislation to prevent paedophiles from travelling overseas where they could attack other vulnerable youngsters.
The journalist, who exposed Jimmy Savile’s sick serial sex offending, says the Midland paedophile is just one of a number of child sex offenders who he is aware of that are currently abroad.
Williams Thomas has refused to name publicly the offenders because he fears identifying them may force them underground – but has taken his concerns to British police and the Home Affairs Select Commitee.
“These offenders are really dangerous,” he said. “The Government shouldn’t be allowing convicted child sex offenders to travel abroad.
“We should be protecting children abroad from British offenders.
Sadly, many other countries have far weaker child protection laws, making access to offend much easier.
“I am aware of British offenders currently in areas where child abuse is prevalent.
“Convicted child sex offenders should not be allowed to travel abroad to countries where child sexual exploitation is high. We should be ensuring convicted child sex offenders have passports taken away from them to limit travel.
“Child abuse is prevalent in Burma, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines, to name just a few.”
Williams Thomas was alerted to the paedophiles’ breaks by concerned campaigners who contacted him on social networking site Twitter, and began to investigate further.
He has written to head of the Home Affairs select committee and the director of the National Crime Agency to alert them to the alarming situation.
The true nature of Jimmy Savile’s character was exposed as a result of Williams Thomas’ ITV documentary Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile.
Following the programme, police launched Operation Yewtree which has investigated the hundreds of allegations of child abuse by the formerly revered DJ and fundraiser.
Celebrity publicist Max Clifford, children’s entertainer Rolf Harris and radio and TV presenter Stuart Hall have all been jailed as a result of the police probes that followed the programme.
