An earthquake struck along the Hayward Fault in the San Francisco Bay Area on Monday morning.
The 4.0-magnitude quake struck less than a mile north of the town of Piedmont at 6:49 a.m. Pacific time, the US Geological Survey reported

According to the USG, the quake was at the depth of 3.3 miles (5.4 miles)
The quake was centered near the junction of the 24 and 13 freeways was felt most strongly on the East Bay, including Oakland, Berkeley and surrounding areas.. Six aftershocks followed.
The Hayward Fault which runs underneath the Bay Area experienced a 4.1 quake less than a month ago, on July 21
There are no immediate reports of injuries or damages.
A U.S. Geological Survey scientist has warned that the fault is expected to produce a major earthquake “any day now”.
